Design Engineering Intern

San Francisco • Summer 2027 • In-person

Design and build student and parent interfaces, taking thoughtful interactions from prototype to production.

The Role

A tutoring interface should help a student focus and give a parent a clear view of their child's progress. As a Design Engineering Intern at Aristotle, you will design and build those experiences. Over twelve weeks in San Francisco in Summer 2027, you will take ideas from sketches and interactive prototypes to production React and TypeScript. You will work alongside designers, engineers, and the product team, with ownership of both how an interface feels and how it works.

What you'll do

  • Design and build student and parent interfaces, from early flows to the details of a shipped feature.
  • Use prototypes to explore ideas, gather feedback, and refine interactions before and during implementation.
  • Bring visual craft to typography, layout, motion, and interface states using our design system.
  • Ship accessible, responsive React and TypeScript interfaces that work across phones, tablets, and desktops.
  • Collaborate with designers, engineers, and the product team, and use feedback from students and parents to improve what you build.

What we're looking for

You should have designed and built something people can use, whether through a personal project, coursework, or an internship. You should be comfortable with React, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS, and care about typography, layout, motion, and interaction details. We want someone who can explain their design choices, respond to feedback, and carry an idea through implementation. Accessibility and responsive behavior are part of the craft.

What to include

Include a portfolio URL in your application with live projects or case studies. Show us what you designed and built, your role in the work, and the decisions you made along the way.

Why this matters

The interface shapes whether a student feels ready to ask a question and whether a parent understands what their child is learning. Your work will reach real families. You will leave with shipped product work and experience taking an idea through design, implementation, and iteration with a small team.
